Speaking about his latest role in gay comedy drama, I Love You Phillip Morris which features McGregor and Jim Carrey as cell mates in a prison, actor Ewan McGregor has said that he finds kissing men “interesting” and that:

“I like kissing boys on screen.”

“As a straight guy, it’s quite an interesting proposition.”

“Anything on a film set that takes you by surprise like that, that gets your blood up, is good.”

I Love You Phillip Morris was recently screened at the Sundance Film Festival where it was met with controversy with some saying that it was not truly a gay film but just one that was about men who happen to be gay, something McGregor disputes saying:

“…I was thinking, it’s nothing but a gay movie. It’s about a gay couple, about a man’s sexuality, and he comes out. It’s not the point of the film, but let’s not pretend it’s not a gay film.”

At the same time however Ewan said that he felt it didn’t matter what sex a person was saying:

“It doesn’t matter to me whether someone is in love with a man or a woman, I find the idea of love and romance interesting. I’m a sucker for it.”

A Danish film, Brotherhood, which depicted a gay love affair between two neo-Nazi group members has won the top prize, the Golden Marc’Aurelio Jury Award 2009 at the Rome Film Festival.

Following the character Lars, as played by Thure Lindhart, as he leaves the army disillusioned with his career, it sees him drawn to the views and ideas of a neo-Nazi group.

Fully embracing the views and ideas of this group, Lars is soon seen to be taking part in attacks and raids on homosexuals, but things suddenly become a lot more complicated as Lars, and his mentor within the group, Jimmy, find themselves falling in love. Desperate to hide their affair from everyone around them, this sees the two men placed in a position where the people they are most scared of are the exact people that they are.

Previously a fashion photographer, this film is the first feature film by Nicolo Donato.
