Why You Won’t Be Seeing Any More Queen Latifah Is Gay Headlines On Queeried

Earlier this month all the gay and gossip websites were nearly exploded with excitement when the press got hold of some photos of Queen Latifah and her personal trainer Jeanette Jenkins on a yacht with Alicia Keys.

So what was it about these that made everyone so darn excited? Well the fact these photos saw the pair with their arms around each other. Yes that’s right. Photos that features no kissing, no wild passionate sex or anything actually that exciting, but managed to quickly become seen as Queen Latifah’s coming out.

Except it wasn’t. A person coming out isn’t them finding themselves photographed by someone else who then sells it on to as many press outlets as possible, that is someone outing someone else.

Some people say that that is what Queen Latifah wanted to happen. That she probably knew the photographers were there, and this was an acknowledgement of her sexuality without her having to say anything. Whether that is true or not, none of us apart from QL herself really knows, but if history is anything to go by then it doesn’t really seem like Queen Latifah’s style.

For example in an interview just weeks before her embrace was caught on camera, Queen Latifah was asked again whether she was gay. Her response?

“I don’t have to explain anything. I don’t have to confirm anything. Look, I need my time. I need my life.”

Sound like a woman getting ready to reveal her gayness to the world? No it doesn’t to us either. In fact, if anything it sounds more like a woman who longs for privacy in her life, something many sections of the media and society in general who would say that she signed away the right to that when she decided she wanted she wanted to be part of the big old celebrity world.

However what these people have soon found is Queen Latifah is far from a pushover. Weeks have passed since the photos were published and everyone who expected her to come out and acknowledge her gayness when after they’d done it for her have been disappointed. QL didn’t and in all likelihood isn’t going to any time soon. And so here at Queeried we’ve made a decision. We didn’t post these recent photos and we’re not going to post any others that appear.

Why?

Because posting these images isn’t about supporting anyone and it’s definitely not about congratulating Queen Latifah for anything. It’s about two things. It’s pushing to try and force someone to do what they don’t want or feel prepared to do right now, and as much as they may try to deny it, it’s about getting people to visit websites and push up visitor numbers, and you know that’s not what Queeried is trying to be about. We want to be a site that supports our community, famous or not. We want to be putting out content we can feel proud of, not content that makes us feel like one of those people in your life that do nothing but gossip about other people to get us some attention.

But don’t think that means we’re going to be come a Queen Latifah free zone, far from it. If Queen Latifah want to talks about gay issues then fear not Queeried will be talking about it too, what we won’t be though is just another site sniggering and pointing behind her back.
