Blue Power Ranger David Yost Announces He’s Gay (Well The Outfit Was A Clue)

Remember the Power Rangers from your youth? Good because that means you’re as old as us. So why are we talking about Power Rangers? Well that would be because David Yost, the blue Power Ranger, has announced that he is gay saying that the time he spent on the show was some of the hardest times in his life with the taunting and teasing eventually leading him to leave the show.

Talking exclusively to The Advocate, who will be running the interview in full next week, Yost said that:

“A week before I left the TV show I made a commitment to myself saying, “If I get called faggot one more time, I’m walking because I can’t handle it any more … Within a week it happened, and it happened from a higher-level person on the show.”

Saying that he spent the next few years after this seeing his sexuality as having nothing less than a negative impact on his life, Yost spent that time trying to “pray the gay away” saying he would call prayer hotlines for help, but instead would time after time find himself being condemned for who he was.

Ultimately leading to Yost having a nervous breakdown, the actor spent a five weeks in hospital, but still ended up feeling isolated since his parents did not at this time know he was gay and so felt that it was something attributed to his lack of work.

Saying he’s coming out now because he’s “tired of hearing stories about teenagers still taking their lives and committing suicide because of who they are and not understanding that there are resources for them to get help.” Yost’s story is sadly another example of how the entertainment industry far from being a section of community most welcoming to the gay community can often be quite the opposite.
