Natalie Bassingthwaighte Leads Australian Fight Against Gay Prejudice By Donating All Profits Of Her Single To Charity
Natalie Bassingthwaighte is a woman that many of you who are fans of a certain Australian soap opera will know best for her role as the evil and rather troublesome Izzy Hoyland.
However since Bassingthwaighte left the show, she has become much better known, particularly in Australia, for her musical talents which has seen her provide lead vocals for Australian electro-rock group, Rogue Traders who have had global hits with Voodoo Child and Watching You.
Hugely popular with the gay clubs and bars when in Rogue Traders, Bassingthwaighte has remained just as popular since she split from the group to go it alone being the closing act for the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Party in 2009. A committed (straight) gay rights campaigner, Natalie is allowing her fifth single off her number one selling 1000 Stars solo album, Love Like This to be support the Wear It With Pride campaign.
Established to support the AID Council of New South Wales, the singles proceeds will not go to Bassingthwaighte but instead to supporting the LGBT community. Talking about both the campaign and the single, Natalie said:
“I would so love everybody to get behind this campaign and the message of this song as it would illustrate to the world how the whole country endorses and celebrates the LGBT community and these reforms. I support equal rights for all Australians and I hope that is what Love Like This and our video will say”
Available to download now from iTunes, Bassingthwaighte said that the lyrics of Love Like This are about how love is universal and should not be judged and has a deeply political angle to the video which sees 85 different t-shirts won by Australian celebrities which mark each of the 85 legislative changes to overturn discrimination against same-sex couples and their families.
You can find out more about the campaign at the Wear It With Pride website and support the LGBT community in Australia by downloading your copy from iTunes.
