Muslim Football Team Refuse To Play Match Because Opposing Team Had Gay Players
An amateur football match in France had to be called off after a Muslim team refused to play against the opposing team because it welcomed openly gay players.
The latter team, Paris Foot Gay, received an email from the Creteil Bebel president the night before the match, which stated:
“In light of the name of your team and in keeping with the principles of our team, which is a team of practicing Muslims, we cannot play against you; our convictions are stronger than a simple game of soccer.”
Met with much criticism, both from the public and the media, did lead to the Creteil Bebel captain apologising, and offering to play Paris Foot Gay, however it was all a little too late from Creteil Bebel who were expelled from the league permanently by officials for their discriminatory behaviour.
Paris Foot Gay have offered to play a benefit match with Creteil Bebel to show there are no hard feelings, but Creteil Bebel refused.
