Premiering in London in 1997 with John Barrowman (of Doctor Who, Torchwood and soon Desperate Housewives fame), The Fix was a musical based around US politics and a rising politician Cal Chandler.

The son of a U.S. senator and Presidential candidate who died whilst in bed with his mistress, Cal is mentored through the ranks by his uncle Grahame Chandler (played by Philip Quast). Guiding Cal through City Council and Governorship Cal then gets involved in the murky underworld that soon turns on him and the club singer, Tina (played by Krysten Cummings) that he begins an affair with.

Winning an Oliver Award for Best Actor in a Musical for Philip Quast’s portyal, the musical was also nominated for Best New Musical, Best Actor in a Musical (for Barrowman), and Best Lighting Designer (for Howard Harrison).

Running for less than a year, the musical saw the lyrics written by John Dempsey and music by Dana P. Rowe and encompassed a wide range of styles of songs from the pop/rock “One, Two, Three” song by John Barrowman to the jazz club style number “Lonely Is A Two Way Street” by Krysten Cummings that is today’s Music Monday recommendation.
