How To Rock The Jennifer Beals Fashion Look On A Budget
Tend to feel a mad mix of desire and envy every time Jennifer Beals appears on your television screen looking as drop dead gorgeous as she did the time before and the time before that.
Always fancied trying to create one of the looks yourself but put off by the price tags that comes with what are obviously designer looks and an experienced fashioned eye?
Well stop being such a wuss. It’s really not that hard to get the sultry Beals look, as we’re going to prove to you right here, right now, using the rather moody / arty / sultry / sexy shoot above as inspiration.
1. Getting The Off Shoulder Look
The first thing we’ve got to get right to get this look working is the off the shoulder look. In the case of Ms Beals she appears to be wearing a dress but don’t get that fixated with that, we can easily split the top and bottom up without losing the impact of the look.
The bonus of doing this is that it not only makes it easier to complete the look but it also makes it a whole lot cheaper, as we’ve found a great off the shoulder top at YesStyle for under £20, and whilst this is a little thicker than Ms Beals sheer number it’s still going to have the same impact and be a whole lot more practical for the cold British weather.
2. Rocking the gypsy skirt style
The real beauty with this look is it’s simplicity. It looks amazing, but the reality is it’s so darn easy to put together with the accessorising (or in this case lack of it) and make-up acting to really pull the look together.
So far we’ve done the top half, now we need it’s the turn of the bottom half. Here we’re after something loose and floaty. A gypsy skirt would be ideal, or if you can’t find that a long maxi shirt will do the trick. Just make sure it’s flicking out as opposed to tailoring in.
For example, whilst it may not be your first pick normally, this long length skirt from Debenhams will be going from smart to grunge in mere seconds once you’ve got all the elements in place.
3.What To Pop On Those Feet…
Whilst you can’t see it from the angle of this photo, we know that the lovely Lady Beals was spotting a rather snazzy pair of calf length boots for this photo shoot. And it’s definitely one option. Personally we’d go with some fitted knee high heels like the Vendetta from Kurt Geiger but we don’t want you toppling over if you’re not used to them so have a play about… just don’t wear white trainers.
4.The Little Things That Make The Big Difference
We’re definitely rocking something of a grunge look here and that means keeping the accessorising low key. In the case of Jennifer that’s wearing nothing on her hands apart from what we presume is her wedding ring and keeping her nails neutral (if you’re not happy with that then go dark to make sure it ties in as opposed to acting as a distraction.
In terms of make up, it’s all about the mean, moody, smoky black eyes which means you’re going to want to be pulling out those dark eye colours, eye pencils and mascaras. If you’ve not got all already then we’d recommend picking up the BADgal pencil from Benefit which is perfect for the look with it’s smouldering black colour, and whilst you’re there check out their BADgal lash mascara and eye colours. They’re like magic.
So there you have it, a look that’s definitely going to give Ms Beals a run for her money and will easily cost you less than fifty quid to put together. Bargain. Sadly you don’t get Jennifer included in the price tag which we do admit is something of a downer.
