Gay Couple Save The Life Of Homophobe Who Abused Them For Three Years
Becoming the first gay couple to get married in Birmingham back in 2005 Bryn and James Tudor are obviously two men very proud of their sexuality and love for each other. Someone who wasn’t so happy however was their next door neighbour, Baljit Koonar who for three years subjected the pair to homophobic abuse.
Taking legal action the pair saw 29 year old Koonar last week handed a 18 month supervision order and ordered to pay £150 compensation to his victims, something that they welcomed, but probably not as much as he welcomed the action they’d taken two days earlier for him and his family which saw them rescue him and his family from his burning house.
Talking about the incident, James said that he’d woken up early in the morning to taste smoke in his mouth and on further investigation discovered smoke was billowing out of the next door house with the family on the roof.
Working with neighbours, the Tudors acted to rescue not only Baljit, but also his wife, children and grandmother before giving them refugee in their own house. When questioned about why they’d done it despite Koonar’s treatment of them James said:
“Our thoughts weren’t about him. We wanted to get the kids down as soon as we could. You don’t think about anything that person has done, it’s just about the value of human life”
Occurring just days before Baljit appeared in court, the pair said that he did, alongside his wife and the grandmother, say thank you for what they’d done with James saying he hoped it would improve relationship once the family were able to return to their gutted house.
