Whilst I act as though I’ve hardly noticed you’re there
The truth is the moment you appeared
My heart skipped a beat it shouldn’t have
And it took all my strength
Not to let the sparkle that only you can ignite
Appear in my eyes.

Whilst I act as though being around you has no impact
And I could quite happily be somewhere else
The truth is it rips me apart
When I know you’re with someone else and I am on my own
Left with nothing but a wild imagination to eat at my soul

Whilst I will turn and walk away as though it doesn’t matter
That I haven’t see you for weeks
Or heard your voice for 133 hours
(Yes I’ve been counting)
The truth is I have to because
I know another hit of you
In the long run is only going to cause me more pain

Whilst I act as though you’re not much to me
And that having you in my life hasn’t relit a fire
I thought had long died
The truth is
This woman who won’t let a slither of control
Out of her grasp has fallen hard
And when you teasingly ask if I love you
The words you hear teasingly back
Are all too painfully not lies.

Does looking at this face not remind you of anything
Like the thunderstorm of lies you told
Or the promises that weren’t worth the air they floated through

Does one look at me not remind you
Of your ability to surgically remove any ounce of feeling
From everything and everything
But particularly from loving me

Am I not a reminder
Of how you all too happily promised everything
Then left nothing
But a blood soaked bandage to remember you by

Those hours you spent wooing me
With promises of everything
Then left me with nothing
Just I had always predicted

The words of truth
You spoke
Which were actually nothing more
Than lies cobbled together
Out of a magazine
You read whilst waiting in the dentist’s waiting room

Do you not hear yourself speaking
Can you not hear those words that do nothing more
Than echo in my ears
Sounding more and more fake
With every moment that passes
And do nothing
But leave a bitter taste in the mouth

Do you not notice

As I become overwhelmed with disgust
By the thought
Of ever wanting you
As someone in my life.
