Sydney Mardi Gras 2010 has announced that Spencer Tunick, the contemporary artist known for his mass nude photoshoots, will be making a series of installations entitled “The Base” in Sydney as part of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras.

Acting to challenge our preconceived and often negative connotations of nudity, Tunick’s work is not only attention grabbing, but also thought provoking as it leads you to question what has lead many of us to view our bodies in such a negative way… and if you can be in Sydney on March 1st you could be part of the latest installation that acts to continue you to challenge these preconceptions.

Scheduled to take place early morning, the shoot will take place whether rain or shine but you don’t need to worry about getting a chill as you’ll only have to be naked for a short amount of time. Planned in association with the City of Sydney the vicinity of the art event will also be closed to everyone expect those taking part so there’s no need to worry about onlookers.

Many of those who have taken part in the past have found it a life changing experience and you’ll always have something to remind you of the day you stripped naked in the name of art because Tunick is giving all participants a limited edition print.

Able to be in Sydney on March 1st and want to take part in “The Base”? Head over to the Sydney Mardi Gras site now to sign up!

Look A Little Harder…

Pays to look a bit harder doesn’t it!

Part of a tiny street art project by a street artist called Slinkachu, this scene was set up near a fly tipping area and dog point and is just one of many miniature scenes that have been placed around London.

All made up using tiny hand painted figures in a range of different guises the one thing that all these scenes have in common is that they’re so small you could quite easily miss them. In fact if you live in London you’ve probably missed a fair few by now so make sure you keep your eyes open from now on!

You can see more of Slinkachu’s work at his website or in his Little People In The City book.

Inspired by a desire to understand whole individuals and idea through the fragments of perceptual memory, the sound bites, and the semiotic tokens collected by society and
recollected by the individual, Hansen aims through this art to combine these as one to look for a more holistic understanding.

Using a range of different mediums that are as diverse as the Bible and his own torso, Hansen sees these mediums as being as important as the art work itself with Influence being a prime example.

Created in 2007, this piece of artwork sees Hansen use his torso as a canvas for 30 different portraits which he layers upon each other before finally peeling the whole thing off his chest and producing the simple silhouette portrait above.

And if you’re wondering how hard it was for him to create all these portraits you can see the whole process below
